Frequently Asked Questions 

1) Which nationalities can apply for Indian e-visa?

For nationalities who are eligible to apply for e-visa, please check the website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html . If you are eligible to apply for e-visa, you can apply on the same aforementioned website (https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html), which is the only correct website for e-visa. Please also note that the e-visa is directly handled by the competent authority in India, the consulate has no role in e-visa. 

2) Is Indian transit visa required for travelling to third country through India?

No Indian Transit Visa is required if:

- baggage is transferred to next flight by airlines without any need to come out of airport (immigration),

- boarding pass for destination is issued at the time of start of journey,

- change of airport is not needed to catch next flight.

You also have to check with the airlines about need of Indian Transit Visa.

3) What is passport validity requirement to apply for the visa?

Passport has to be minimum 6 month validity beyond intended departure of India. Please also note that passport also needs to have to two empty pages side by side for the visa application.

4) Which provinces in Turkiye are under jurisdiction of in the consulate?

The provinces of Aydin, Balikesir, Bursa, Canakkale, Denizli, Edirne, Istanbul, Kirklareli, Kocaeli, Manisa, Mugla, Sakarya, Tekirdag and Yalova are currently under the jurisdiction of this Consulate. Applicants whose residences are in other parts of Turkiye need to submit their visa applications at Embassy of India, Ankara.

5) Which document can be accepted as Turkish address proof?

As Turkish address proof, you can provide address proof from Turkish e-government website “e-devlet”.

6) Is Turkish residence permit required for non-Turkish citizens regarding the visa application?

Residence permit is required for non-Turkish citizens to apply for the visa. Non-Turkish citizens need to have recent residence permit which is still valid for at least 6 more months and previous residence permits regarding the last 2 years. Work permit is also required for business visa and employment visa applications. 

7) What are the photo requirements to apply for visa?

When you fill online application form on  https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html , you have to upload colour photo with the following requirements:

  • Format JPEG 

  • Size 

    • Minimum 10 KB 

    • Maximum 300 KB 

  • The height and width of the Photo must be equal. 

  • Photo should present Full face, front view, eyes open. 

  • Center head within frame and present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin. 

  • Background should be plain light colored or white background. 

  • No shadows on the face or on the background. 

  • Without borders. 

  • Make sure that photo presents full head from top of hair to bottom of chin. Head should measure 1 inch to 1-3/8 inches (25mm to 35mm). Make sure eye height is between 1-1/8 inches to 1-3. 

Please also paste the same photo to the concerned section of the hard copy of application form after uploading photo and getting appointment date.

8) After filling online application form system requires various documents to be uploaded. I cannot obtain some documents. And, I cannot upload the other documents which I obtained because of technical reasons. What can I do?

You have to upload all documents which are mandatory to be uploaded on the system.  Please note that there can be differences between documents you have to upload on the system and documents you have to bring to the consulate in person.

Once you come to the the `Document Upload` section, please follow the instructions which are mentioned which are mentioned on the concerned section. 

Please also note that names of files which you uploaded to the system needs be written with in English characters.

9) How to get appointment date for the visa application at the consulate? How can I see earliest appointment dates?

Visa applicants can see available appointment dates and can get appointment date on  https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html after they fill online application form and upload photo there.


Any request to prepone/postpone the Visa appointment will be allowed only on emergency grounds. A request in this regard shall be sent to the email cons.istanbul@mea.gov.in, cons1.istanbul@mea.gov.in

10) How can see my appointment date?

Appointment date can be seen in the rightmost section of the first page of the application form. If you took appointment date and if your appointment date is not written in your application form, please click “Print Registered Application Form” on https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html ,reprint form for regular visa after entering all the required  information. 

11) I took appointment date but I have not uploaded photo and there are some mistakes in my application form. Can my application be accepted?

Application form has to be filled correctly and photo has to be uploaded correctly. If photo was not uploaded and/or if there are mistakes in your application form, you have to fill new online application form afresh correctly and upload photo from your appointment date. After that you can come to the consulate on your appointment date with hard copy of new application form (the one which was filled correctly and which photo was uploaded), hard copy of your old application form (the one which appointment is written in the right most section of first page of application form), and the other required documents for the visa application.

12) Do I have to come to the consulate in person, or can someone bring my documents to the consulate on behalf of me?

All applicants have to come to the consulate in person to submit their documents at the consulate on their appointment dates.

13) How can I pay the visa fee?

You can pay the visa at the consulate by cash and as US Dollars after submitting the documents. 

14) What is the processing time for the visa application?

After submitting all the required documents, it takes normally 1-2 working days for processing visa application. Please also each visa application is considered on its merits, note any visa application can take more time, and the Indian Consulate may ask for additional information/document at any stage during the processing of the application. Submission of application along with prescribed fee does not guarantee issuance of visa. Normally, you are advised to apply 20-30 days prior to your scheduled date of travel.

15) Is it possible to get visa with long duration and number of entries?

Whether your visa application can be accepted or not, and duration of visa and number of entries of visa can be decided after you submit your documents for the visa application at the consulate.

16) If I get Indian visa, when the validity date of Indian visa starts?

Validity of the visa is effective from the date of issue of visa.
